(Write a review) "I'm gonna keep it simple. I got the FDE color, 400 fps.
-Amazing quality build
-all metal main features
-branding looks great
-DD markings look great
-crane stock can fit a stick battery if you have it fully extended
-qd sling point and ambi strap on end of the receiver/buffer tube
-ics branding on sling point
-hop up stays set (rotary)
-excellent grouping at a far range
-burst and auto is fun, with precocking and ability to disable it if you wanted
-safety decompresses spring from precocking
-ebb function looks great* (see cons)
-looks super tactical with a light and pressure switch, red dot, and angled grip.
-very positive selector switch feedback
-comes with 2 extra fuses and cleaning rod deans head* (see cons)
-pistol grip is probably the best I've felt comfort-wise and grip-wise, plus cool design!
-doesn't do the thing (mock bolt release doesn't have a function)
-magwell is really wide, making mag fitment possibly an issue (the mag it comes with is wobbly in the magwell and with PTS EPM mags)
-the included mag can literally be pulled out without pressing the mag release
-ebb function is kind of weak. on a scale of 0-5, 0 being a regular AEG and 5 being a GBBR its a solid 1.
-ebb feels more like a rattle than a recoil simulation attempt, I guess its something.
-only 1 qd attachment point (on the stock), PUT ONE ON THE RAIL
-the deans "adapter" it comes with seems to be just a replacement deans head, not a small tamiya-to-deans.
-Honestly, I give it a 9/10 despite the cons. It feeds well, and maybe I just have to find different mags the feed just as good but better fitment. This is likely the best EBBR M4 variant you can find that looks like a real model. It performs amazing and the EBB wont shake itself to pieces.. unlike other types. If you want a GBBR but don't want to spend a fortune on mags and gas, let alone a great replica alone, this is likely the best you will find in electric. I've been looking around for a M4A1 with the same or similar functions and could find any at least that were affordable and in Stock. This isn't an M4A1 and wasn't sure if I would like the barrel length, but in-person it looks great barebones, and especially with attachments.
If you're thinking "I'm not sure if I like that barrel length, I wish it was longer.." I thought the same. If you throw a mock suppressor or tracer unit, it will look more like what you want/expect, if you don't already like the in-person impression of it. A longer mock suppressor/tracer looks sick and fills in that extra length you think you want/need.. believe me. Besides, after some thinking, I realized that this length suits cqb if you want to run an m4 platform AND outdoor, especially with a mock suppressor for extra length.
You'll like it. If you still wanted an M4, well guess what, just get a 12.5in quad rail (mk18 is 9.5 inch) and 3in barrel extensions and you got it. Then you can switch between 2 models with one receiver, save a little money. "Extremely impressed with this guns performance out of the box. It feels very clean and well built, no rattles or movement, its one of my most real feeling airsoft guns, on par with or better than my KWAs or VFCs. Range and accuracy blew me away, I typically put a tightbore and different bucking in every gun I buy, this is the first gun that I have had no desire to change or upgrade. I'm running .40g on stock components and they are insanely precise. I did throw in a heavier spring to get it up to about 450 fps, and the gun sounds exactly the same, not strained or sluggish under the weight of the spring. I also tend to shoot a lot so time will tell if the internals hold up to that amount of abuse, but the split gearbox design really lives up to the hype. I've already had it partially apart and when or if this gun fails then it will be such a breeze to work on, its really a techs dream. "The moment when I saw that ICS and EMG were making a DD Mk18, I placed a pre-order on it without any hesitation. I pre-ordered the ICS DD Mk18 (FDE, 400fps).
The new ICS x EMG DD Mk18 AEG is no doubt a 5/5, but I have several reasons as to why I am giving the ICS DD Mk18 a 4/5. To start out, this is an amazing and beautiful airsoft gun to hold and to use out on the field. Externally, everything is well built and feels sturdy to handle any abuse thrown at it. The internal stock performance is absolutely stellar and the instantaneous trigger response is an awesome feature to have that ICS has finally nailed down with their latest version of the SSS mosfet.
Now for my reason as to why I gave the ICS DD Mk18 a 4/5. If you own any older ICS ebb M4 AEGs (MMR, MARS, Yak or Hera CQR), the upper receiver will not fit onto the ICS DD Mk18 lower receiver. However, the ICS DD Mk18 upper receiver will fit onto the older ICS ebb M4 AEGs lower receiver that I listed. I was disappointed when I found this out after trying to swap receivers with my other ICS AEGs. The new angled pistol grip will not fit perfectly onto the old ICS ebb M4 AEGs; there will be a small gap between the lower receiver and the pistol grip, and the rear body pin does not fully close when putting the entire gun together. Unlike the old ICS ebb M4 AEGs (MMR, MARS, Yak, Hera CQR), the receiver body pins on the ICS DD Mk18 does not retain itself when removed from the lower receiver.
So at this moment, I am currently only using the entire ICS DD Mk18 upper receiver group onto my ICS ebb MMR lower receiver since that is the only external part that is fully compatible and interchangeable with my ICS ebb parts. I am unable to use DD licensed lower receiver and the pistol grip. When I had placed my pre-order on Evike for the ICS DD Mk18, I was under the impression that the AEG was 100% interchangeable and fully compatible with all of my ICS ebb parts.
I definitely would not recommend the ICS DD Mk18 to any ICS owner that is looking to swap external parts interchangeably with their other older ICS AEGs, its too expensive to do that. I would recommend the ICS DD Mk18 for people who have the money and are looking to buy a DD Mk18 that has a solid stock performance and doesn't care for interchangeable compatibility with other ICS AEGs.
- Wired to dean connectors
- SSS mosfet (latest version)
- Externals are very well constructed
- Master mods internals.
- Weak ICS stock motor
- Frail stock electrical wiring
- Not 100% interchangeable with other ICS ebb AEGs (MMR, MARS, YAK, Hera CQR). Can't use the ICS DD Mk18 lower receiver, DD pistol grip. Write a Review
